The Loeries featured a panel discussion yesterday which discussed the current status of female representation in the media.
The Unstereotype Alliance was represented by Shaadia Vawda and Stacey Grant from Unilever South Africa who shared the Fearless Girl video, created by IPG, to reinforce the message of equitable inclusion of women in workspaces. Statistics from the Beyond Gender Report were also shared and highlighted that black women (especially single, black women) face the greatest challenges in South African media as 60% of current advertising shows only white women. This supplemented the need for progressive portrayals of gender roles in advertising and ended with a call to action for all to join the Unstereotype Alliance and help create a gender-equal world.
Alliance members Free the Bid, Diageo and Facebook also participated on the panel.
