Over the last decade Diageo underwent significant transformation in terms of inclusion and diversity, with a particularly steep change in gender equality. In 2009, Diageo’s Executive Committee consisted entirely of men and there were only a handful of women in senior leadership roles. By the time this case study was published in March 2020, around 40 per cent of Diageo’s Executive Committee were women and the Executive Committee included six different nationalities and multiple languages.

Diageo puts this change down to a commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment at the highest levels of the organisation, however the case study also spotlights numerous policy changes and cultural shifts Diageo championed in pursuit of company-wide gender equality.
